The Pi community, known as Pioneers, has taken shots at Bybit CEO Ben Zhou after the exchange suffered a massive $1.4 billion breach. While the exchange is still working on thier next steps, their problems with Pi network project has escalated.
Earlier Pi coin listing on Bybit turned controversial as Pi claimed they rejected Bybit KYB application and Bybit CEO Zhou replied they never filled one. Zhou even went ahead to call Pi network a scam. This beef with pi community has come to bite Bybit as following the todays hack Pioneers are saying ” That’s Karma.”
The hack reportedly drained funds from its ETH multisig cold wallet. Zhou stated that the attack was executed using a sophisticated exploit where the transaction appeared legitimate due to a masked user interface, tricking signers into approving unauthorized transfers.
The hack comes just days after Zhou openly criticized the Pi Network, calling it a scam and citing a 2023 warning from Chinese authorities about Pi Coin’s fraudulent nature. Bybit also notably refused to list Pi Coin, unlike other exchanges such as OKX, Bitget, and MEXC.
Zhou had also refused to associate with Pi, stating in an X post, “I’ll keep my distance.” He claimed he was asked to join Pi but rejected the offer, calling it ridiculous.

Following the breach, Pi Network supporters, known as Pioneers, took to social media, mocking Zhou and calling the hack “karma” for his comments. Many shared memes and sarcastic remarks, suggesting that Bybit’s misfortune was linked to its refusal to support Pi Coin, though no direct connection exists.
There is no proof that the hack is linked to Zhou’s comments on Pi, but the timing has added to the controversy between Pi supporters and critics.
As Bybit investigates the breach with the help of Safe, questions about the exchange’s security are growing, and the debate over Pi Network remains heated.
